About Garden Maintenance
Operations we perform as part of the periodic maintenance can be listed as follows;

Pruning:
The most important single operation for obtaining healthy growing periods in plants is pruning. Spring and fall seasons must be allocated to pruning for the plants to thrive more vigorously, blossom in a better way, and have a nicer form.
It is recommendable that pruning should be carried out by experts since every plant has unique requirements in terms of extent and technique of pruning.

Fertilization:
It is the process of fertilizing the plants and lawns in certain intervals –giving them the nutritive elements they need organically or chemically-, and thus sustaining their vitality. There can be many different choices of fertilizer ratios for different plants and there are special fertilizers for differing requirements of, say, coniferous trees, roses, rhododendrons, or shrubs. Fertilizing of lawns is an entire topic by itself and requires even a more special maintenance. Especially in the spring months, yellowish grass ends will appear in your lawns unless regular fertilization is applied every 15 days. Fertilizing, consequently, has an important periodic maintenance stage both for the sustenance of plants and of the lawn.

Medication:
It is a regularly conducted operation to protect plants against pests. Ingredients of medication will differ depending on the plant species. Fungicides and insecticides should only be used for bugs and incinerations observed in Euonymus japonica, for instance; whereas insecticides alone would be more proper in fighting fruit tree pests. As is the case with other plants, lawns also require various medications, such as herbicides in fighting weeds, fungicides against fungi.

Ventilation:
Airing the lower parts of plants at certain intervals with a rake or something similar is very important for thriving and health of the plants. After ventilation is done, it is ideal for fertilizers to be applied. Ventilation is also important for lawns. Airing with the aid of a rake are generally done in the spring and fall densely. At other times, raking is carried out in order to annihilate the residue after the mowing of the lawn
failing in doing this operation will cause yellowing in grasses

Lawn Mowing:
Moving of lawns every 15 days in spring and once in a month in summer, and short-cutting in fall to prepare it for the winter, are periodic mowing operations.  Grass leaves should be cut by 1/3 of their lengths. To shorten a too long grass leaves all of a sudden will be shocking for the lawn; so it is important how frequent, in what manner, and when the mowing operation would be performed.

MAINTENANCE METHODS BY MONTHS

-For Marmara Region;

January;
Removing broken branches, filling up of surface scars, protection of sensitive species against frost, solving of draining problems, removing the snow on the plants etc. are important measures against frost damage and fractions due to snow weight.

February;
February is the most convenient time for pruning. Pruning of leafy trees and shrubs (fruit trees, ornamental plants, etc.) can be done by taking weather conditions into consideration (it is done when there is no rainfall or snow). In late February, cuprous medications should be administered to the stems and leaves, and the soil where stems connect to the ground.

March;
Pruning and forming of the plants that have left the winter behind can be kept on during this month.
Preventive medication with cuprous drugs is also should be performed in March, too.
Nitrogen-based spring fertilization is done to improve resistance of the plants against any kind of diseases.

April;
Spring fertilization should be kept on in this month.
Protective application of fungicides and pesticides should be repeated every 15 days.
The soil that has been mature enough should be worked in April.
Seasonal blossoms, some bulbous plants, perennials, and ground-covering plants can be planted.
This is the most convenient month for eye cutting of fruit trees.

May;
Plant nutrition should be supported with macro trace metals.
Fungicides and pesticides should be applied every ten days from this month onward –until the end of September.
Protective medication is continued -even when no pests are detected in the garden- to protect plants and the lawns against pests that may come from outside.

June;
Dry branches of trees that have completed their blossoming  can be pruned.
This is the month when maximum maintenance is conducted for roses.
June is good for the summer fertilization.
Regular irrigation of the plants should be continued.
Fighting pests and protection against them should be kept on.
Days without rainfall must be preferred for administration of medication, and this must be done in the evening hours when temperature is lower.

July;
Regular irrigation of the plant should be carried out. Pest control activities should be kept on.

August;
If works that must be done in July could not be completed, these can be done in this month. Pest control and protective operations should be continued. Regular irrigation of the plants should be carried out.

Semtember;
Fall fertilization can be started as of the last week of the month.
Agricultural pest control should be done.

October;
Winter fertilization can be applied depending on the plant species.
Pruning can be done.
Seasonal flowers that were planted in spring months begin to die in this month so they must be removed for their places to be prepared.
Seasonal plants blossoming during winter (pansies, cowslips, winter daffodils, etc.) and bulbous plants can be planted.

November;
From the second half of November, plants that are intended to move can be removed, observing removing techniques, and replanted to a preferred part of the garden.
Fruit trees and other plants can be protected from winter effects by applying burnt, sifted, or fumigated fertilizer or inorganic fertilizer support.

December;
Things to do in the garden is scarcely any in December.
In regions where heavy snow occurs, snow should be removed off the plants and cold sensitive plants should be wrapped up.
This is the best month for the maintenance and cleaning of garden equipment in order to prepare them for the new season.
